Holiday Adventures

Dates available for Holiday Adventures – use the tiny arrow at the top of the diary to move between months.

Whittle & Spark Adventure Days are fantastic fun. Whatever the weather we keep comfortable outdoors in nature. When it rains we collect rain water from our shelter tent’s sides and carve streams through the mud!  We encourage children’s imagination, exploration and sense of adventure.  We are happy to support their play and to let them choose activities.

Each day is different, with exploring, playing, learning, and a mixture of:

  • Bushcraft survival skills
  • Den building
  • Build and light a fire
  • Telling stories
  • Campfire cooking
  • Making beautiful things to take home
  • Exploring and playing games
  • Using tools
  • Whittling
  • Minibeast safaris
  • Setting up ropes and designing our own playgrounds, swings and obstacle courses.

We have a campfire every day (usually with popcorn or marshmallows to cook or make our own dampers from flour and water to eat like mini scones – yum!) and your child will have a chance to make something to take home along with new friends, muddy clothes and a big smile!

Quotes from this summer

“My children had a fantastic day, they haven’t stopped talking about it! I am definitely booking them in again!”

“Best day of my holiday!”

What do they need to bring?

We’ll be outside for the whole day, so they’ll need:

  • Warm layers
  • waterproof trousers, essential kit
  • waterproof coat, essential kit
  • outdoor footwear (walking boots or wellies)
  • Packed lunch
  • Plenty of drink for the day
  • Mid morning and afternoons snacks
  • A comfortable rucksack to carry everything in for the several short periods of walking to and from our base camp.

For everyone’s safety, it’s also important that they don’t bring any of their own tools (no knives, fire flints or similar).

What ages do you take?

From age five to twelve. While that seems like a wide spread we are used to having all ages on our events – so long as the children are enthusiastic we find it works!

How many places are available?

We generally take six children per instructor (max eight to one).  That’s why we have a waiting list – if there are enough children looking for a place we’ll get another instructor.

Is the whole day spent outside?

Yep. A whole day out in one of our beautiful woodlands! So bring your waterproofs!

What if it rains?

There’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing!   The day will go ahead whatever the sky throws at us, so it’s important to dress for the weather. You’ll definitely need waterproof trousers, a waterproof coat, wellies/boots and (hopefully) a sun hat and sun cream too! We like to throw up some tarpaulins to shelter under for lunch, but we’ll still be out having fun!

My child has special needs, can they come?

Please ring us before booking to discuss your childs needs (07928 752707) or use the message button below. We try our very best to involve everybody, but the nature of the site and the activities may not suit everyone. Children with low levels of autism and dispraxia tend to love the camps. For everyone’s safety, we can’t accept children with a history of violent behaviour or running away.

Erm…the marshmallows…are they vegetarian? Beef free? Pork free?

Oh yes! We have a selection for everyone’s dietary needs (though the veggie marshmallows are a different shape!). Let us know any dietary needs when you book and we’ll cook something that everyone can eat.

Where are you based?

We have two sites A Wonderful Wild Coppiced Willow Woodland near Shepperton and Blacknest Woodland just outside the Great Park near Sunninghill where fallen beeches make amazing climbing frames and a tree house nestles in the ancient woodland.

Willow Coppice – Dockett Eddy Lane – As soon as you get to the river on your right, you’ll see a field entrance on your left, this is where registration takes place. Shepperton, TW17 9NT

Blacknest Woodland, Blacknest Cottage, Blacknest Gate Rd, SL5 7SA

Thunder, lightning, Strong Winds?

Strong Winds are the only reason we would have to avoid going under trees. If the forecast has gusts or continual wind speed of 42miles/hour or over we will cancel the day and you will be offered offered another date instead. If strong winds arise or a lightning storm develops directly above us during a day camp we may have to call you to collect your child/ren.  We will take shelter at appropriate covered buildings at each site if this happens.  Days that are cut short due to extreme weather will not be eligible for partial refunds or places on alternate dates.

Illness and refunds
If your child is ill on the day we are happy to offer them a place on another date.  We are unable to offer refunds for illness on the day. Please give us at least three weeks notice if you wish to cancel your place for a full refund.  With over one weeks notice we are happy to offer you a place on another day.
